I had an endowed professorship at UC-Berkeley that supported my research, so I know how important these funds are.

“Great people. Great place.”

Great people.

Make a Gift“Great people.” focuses on three simple, yet synergistic elements: undergraduates, graduate/professional students and faculty. It combines support for outstanding faculty with support for outstanding students—the intellectual capacity of campus and the core of the University’s greatness.

In 2007, the University of Wisconsin Foundation Board of Directors voted unanimously to segregate $20 million for a need-based financial aid challenge program. As a public university – one of the best in the world – we want the brightest, most promising students to believe that a UW-Madison education is possible.

Great place.

“Great place.” refers to the East Campus Gateway. This renovation of the eastern edge of campus will unify new structural elements in the area with existing and traditional spaces such as the Memorial Union Terrace and Library Mall. The Gateway will have gathering places, plantings, plazas, public art and a vibrant pedestrian mall linking the lakeshore with Regent Street.

Elements of the East Campus Gateway include an expanded Chazen Museum of Art, School of Music performance and academic buildings, a hockey facility and unified art facilities.

Adding to the liveliness of the area will be the University Square redevelopment project, a public-private partnership that will bring University Health Services, a new Student Activities Center and Student Services together under one roof. Private-sector development will provide new retail, commercial and housing space.

These developments, along with a major remodeling of the iconic Memorial Union, will bring new activity, usefulness and a sense of educational vitality to this critical campus junction between the University and the city of Madison.
